The Campaign is hardly the most complex piece of political satire ever written. In fact, the movie suffers a great deal because its observations about political corruption feel fairly superficial. The relationship between donors and politicians, and the sway that what the movie terms “big money” has over elected officials, are hardly cutting insights into the way that lobbying and electioneering actually works. To be fair, there is something in the way that the movie parodies the tendency of US elections to get incredibly dirty incredibly fast, but The Campaign ultimately winds up feeling a little superficial.

That’s not to say that there aren’t moments of wit to be found here. Both Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis are skilled comedians, even when the material isn’t necessarily up to scratch. And in order to make fun of the extreme rhetoric that such campaigns may involve, the movie occasionally pushes itself into…

8 Advantages of ASP.NET over PHP

S/N DevtheWeb.NET's View Comment By Alex (Against) Comment By Coz (Against)

The code-behind allows you easier to maintain the code when it comes to large websites.

There are plenty of frameworks that let you use MVC pattern in PHP. Or you can use a template engine like Smarty to split code from presentation

Using Php design patterns such as MVC it’s very easy to maintain large sites with seperation of all layers.

      2

You have the freedom of choosing from multiple languages (C#, VB.NET, C++, etc.

That is true. But from a portability point of view – how often do you switch between languages? But I agree you have the choice between C# and VB.NET

Not sure this is actually a point at all. Sure, if you already know the net language it’s an advantage but Php is easy to learn.

      3

      SQL Server is also very fast, secure, and it can store extremely large amounts of data; actually, there’s no limit;

What does SQL Server has to do with ASP.NET?
Who told you you can not use SQL Server from PHP?

What has sql server got to do with anything? Sure it comes with net but mysql, or even sqlite, are just as secure, and you can use them with net just like you can use sql server with php.

4 With ASP.NET you get the whole .NET Class Library and the thousands of third party components as well. There are definitely much more third party components out there for .NET than for PHP.

There are actually plenty of 3rd party libraries for PHP, don’t forget that PHP in itself as a language/environment is older than .NET. But speaking only for me I can’t tell you how much code is out there written for PHP vs ASP.NET. So in the end you might be correct on this one.

Components for net are typically commerical, meaning you pay for them. Php extensions are typically free as in free. It’s also my experience that a lof of these commerical net components are filling in gaps left by the net framework. Custom controls for instance.

      5

The Visual Studio .NET IDE. makes coding much, much easier. It can highlight syntax, let you know when the wrong stuff is commented, do command completion, and just plain help you organize better. Visual Studio has a really nice debugger.

Agree, there is no better IDE than Visual Studio.

Yes, the VS IDE is nice but so is eclipse, netbeans and a dozen or so others, all free and open source. They have the same if not more functionality than VS and can work with the net framework too.

      6

The Compiled Code (vs. PHP Interpreted Code) – .NET compiles code, such as C#, into what its creators have termed MSIL (Microsoft Intermediate Language).

It might come as a surprise to you, but PHP actually compiles it’s code in the so called “opcode”, which is like the MSIL. But, by default this is regenerated every time a script is executed. There are the so called accelerators, that cache this opcode and do not spent time on compiling again.

How is this a point as to why asp is better than php? It doesn’t even make sense. Php compiles faster and runs faster, it doesn’t have the overhead of the net framework.

      7

In ASP.NET it’s easy to use threads and build asynchronous handlers in your server-side web code.

Agree, PHP is not multi thread friendly.

This is true, but for a website you shouldn’t be using threads at all really.

      8

      ASP.NET developers are paid better

I don’t agree. IT depends on the professional, level of knowledge, experience, and many other factors.

This is the one point I can give you, unless you’re working for yourself!

My Say in the matter is, there's no much big difference between .NET and PHP. Yes, Php dosnt support things like Multi-threading (Except you want to implement something that has dto do with it), .NET IDE etc But, I must tell you, no much discrepancy between the two. Both has aadvantages and disadvantages. Many component for .NET, you pay for them but for PHP, everything is almost if not free. If you feel you want it and you got the money to go through with it, fine. No big deal. But is that necessary? many professional who have use it have returned or cleave to PHP back. So, that's my say. Thanks!
