…the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.

  (1 Samuel 18:1)

Our text today shows the necessity of having an intimate friend as we journey through life. David and Jonathan were two heroic figures in Israel whose friendship presents a good example of loyalty and faithfulness. Jonathan saved David from several plots by King Saul, his father, to assassinate him. When Jonathan died, David brought Mephibosheth Jonathan’s son into the palace. Someone said, “Friendship …is one soul in two bodies: a friend is another self.” Are you a true friend? Don’t be a loner like Samson without a companion or confidant. Nevertheless, as a youngster, your friend must be someone who is heavenly minded, and able to add value to your life.

Jesus is the best friend you ever need. He declared “Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you”. You can become His friend when you obey His command to repent, turn away from sin and follow Him. Jesus died to save you from sin. Make Him your intimate friend today. Repose your faith and confidence in Him.
